Series With Pirates Dates Back To 1956
Â
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series with Seton Hall, 18-7, with all but one of the matchups coming after MU joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005-06.
Â
SHU opened the series with a 96-78 victory over Marquette on March 17, 1956 in MU's first-ever appearance in the National Invitation Tournament in New York. The next meeting wouldn't come until 50 years later when Marquette moved to the BIG EAST.
Â
Marquette swept the home-and-home series in 2017-18, posting an 84-64 win at the Bradley Center on Jan. 9, 2018 before claiming an 88-85 decision on the road on Feb. 7, 2019. In the most recent matchup, guard Markus Howard led five players in double figures with 32 points and forward Sam Hauser chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Â
Howard's 53 Captures Nation's Attention
Â
College basketball fans were once again reminded why junior guard Markus Howard is one of the best players in the nation, thanks to his record-setting 53-point effort at Creighton Wednesday night.
Â
In 43 minutes of action, he finished 15-of-26 from the field overall, 10-of-14 from deep and 13-of-15 from behind the 3-point line. He also found time to chip in six assists, two rebounds and a blocked shot.
Â
Consider the evidence:
Sam Hauser Collects Double-Double, Closer To 1K
             Â
Junior Sam Hauser has scored nearly 1,000 points in a Marquette uniform, but his 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime at Creighton Wednesday night may have been the most important.
Â
The Stevens Point, Wisconsin, native collected the fourth double-double of his career and third this season (Presbyterian, Wisconsin) in the win over the Bluejays, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. His catch-and-shoot trey with 0.8 seconds left tied the game at 85-85 and he also chipped in three assists and didn't have a turnover in 42 minutes of action.
Â
In 83 career games, Hauser now owns 990 points and is just 10 points away from becoming the 50th player in Marquette history to score 1,000 points. He would join teammate Markus Howard, who is currently 16th all-time with 1,517 points.

Â
Consider the evidence:
- 53 points set new BIG EAST and Marquette single-game records                             Â
- Broke his own previous record of 52 points, netted last year at Providence and shared with the Friars' Marshon Brooks
- Only collegiate player in the last 20 years to own a pair of 50-point efforts
- Second-highest total in NCAA this year (54 - Jordan Lyons, Furman)
- Accounted for 68 total points (assisted on 15), 64.2 percent of team total
