Winning Ways Lead To Rise Up Rankings
Â
The Golden Eagles are ranked 12th in the Associated Press Top-25 this week and own the 11th position in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Â
The ranking is the highest for the program since the 2012-13 campaign, when the team finished 26-9 overall and advanced to the Elite Eight. Since the 1977-78 campaign, MU has never been ranked higher than eighth in the nation. The team last rose to No. 8 in 2011-12 in mid-March.
Â
Marquette's latest rise in the rankings comes courtesy of a five-game winning streak in BIG EAST Play, which the squad hasn't run together since winning six-in-a-row in 2011-12 as well.
Â
Series With DePaul Dates Back To 1917-18
Â
Marquette's all-time series with DePaul dates back to the 1917-18 season (second year of MU's varsity competition) and includes 123 previous meetings.
Â
The Golden Eagles own a 76-47 advantage in the series and have claimed 12 of the last 15 matchups overall. The extensive series history has been aided by the fact the two programs have been in the same league dating back to the 1991-92 campaign. Since that season, the teams have shared affiliation in the Great Midwest Conference, Conference USA and BIG EAST Conference.
Â
In program history, Marquette has faced only rival Wisconsin (125) on more occasions.
Â
The two teams split their home-and-home series in 2017-18, with each team winning on its respective home court. The programs also met in the opening round of the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament and MU was able to hang on for a 72-69 win after a DePaul 3-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the rim. Guard Andrew Rowsey led the way with 25 points in that game and forward Sam Hauser had 16 points.

Â
For the first time in BIG EAST history, two brothers have won the weekly men's basketball honors in the same week. Marquette's Sam Hauser has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Joey Hauser has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.      Â
Â
Sam Hauser averaged 28.0 points and 7.5 rebounds to lead Marquette to a 74-71 win at Georgetown and a 79-68 victory against Providence. The junior registered a career-high 31 points at Georgetown and posted 25 points in the Providence win. For the week, he shot 54.5 percent from the field and made 8-of-16 from 3-point range.Â
Â

Trio Taking Advantage Of Charity Attempts
Â
Through games of Jan. 20, the Golden Eagles are ranked first in the BIG EAST and 12th in the nation in free throw percentage (.764).
Â
Marquette's overall success at the line as a team is primarily the result of the efforts of Markus Howard (.902, 1st), Sam Hauser (.898, 2nd) and Joey Hauser (.824, 6th), who all rank in the top-10 among BIG EAST players in free throw percentage.
Â
The trio has combined to shoot 205-of-232 (88.4 percent) from the line in 2018-19, accounting for 58.3 percent of the team's overall attempts.
