Four players in action at weekend tourney
The Marquette University men's tennis team wrapped up play Sunday afternoon at the Frank Beeman Invite, hosted by Michigan State.
The Golden Eagles were represented at the event by four players: Luis Heredia Gomez, Brett Meyers, Luke Smrek and Fran San Andres.Ā The best-of-3 format featured teams playing on doubles and two singles matches to determine which squad would advance in the main draw.
Smrek and Heredia Gomez posted a pair of victories, advancing to the semifinals of the 16-team event.Ā The duo would drop its final two matches, however, to finish in fourth place.
Meyers and San Andres also picked up a pair of wins in doubles in the consolation bracket.
Marquette will return to action Oct. 17-20 at the ITA Midwest Regional.
