The Golden Eagles will compete in over 20 meets during the indoor/outdoor seasons combined
MILWAUKEEĀ ā The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams have announced the indoor and outdoor schedules for the 2019-20 season.
Ā
"The indoor schedule is very similar to last year," MU head track and field coach Bert Rogers said. "We are looking forward to racing on some fast indoor tracks this winter, with Notre Dame's 320m oval and Iowa's banked 200m track as a couple of our favorites."
The Golden Eagles will begin their indoor campaign at the Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Dec. 6. The meet is their only one that takes place before the new year.
Ā
For the fourth consecutive season, MU will kick off 2020 at the John Tierney Invitational hosted by Milwaukee at the KlotscheĀ Center on Saturday, Jan. 18 before heading back to Notre Dame for their invitational on Jan. 25.
These two meets kick off a series of six-straight weekends with at least one meet leading up to the BIG EAST and NCAA indoor championship meets. The two teams head to theĀ Black and Gold Invitational (Iowa) for the second straight season from Jan. 31 through Feb. 1.
Ā
On the weekend of Feb. 7, MU will have team members competing in both the Windy City Invitational (hosted by the University of Chicago) and the Parkside Classic. The Grand Valley State Big Meet, an annual staple in MU's indoor season schedule, will take place on Friday, Feb. 14.
Ā
The indoor regular season comes to a close on Feb. 22 at the Panther Tune-Up, again at the KlotscheĀ Center. Postseason competition begins a week later in Geneva, Ohio as MU goes to compete at the BIG EAST indoor championships from Sunday, March 1 through Monday, March 2.
Ā
The men's team earned BIG EAST runner-up honors last season while the women placed third. Five men's student athletes and one from the women's team took home conference championships in their respective events in 2019.
Ā
The NCAA indoor championships are scheduled for March 13-14 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The outdoor season features eight meets, including a pair at home for the second straight season, featuring the Marquette Duals (April 3) and Marquette Midweek Challenge (April 22) at the ShimekĀ Track.
Ā
"We're excited to host our two home meets once again," Rogers said. "We love competing in front of our friends, family and alumni here in Milwaukee."
Ā
However, the team will head to warmer weather to begin outdoor competition, which kicks off at the USF Invitational in Tampa, Florida from March 20-21. In April, the Golden Eagles will compete in their two home meets in addition to traveling to Chicago for the DePaul Dual (April 11) and Indiana State for the Gibson Invitational (April 17-18).
Ā
MU closes out the month by going to the Rice Twilight meet in Houston, Texas (April 25) for the first time in program history.
Ā
"Our team is looking forward to going to Indiana State and DePaul for the first time in a number of years," Rogers said. "It'll also be the first time since I've been at MU that we take part in a meet at Rice University."
The regular season concludes in Madison, where Marquette will compete at the Badger Invitational on Friday, May 1, before heading to Villanova to compete at the BIG EAST outdoor championships May 8-9. Following the BIG EAST outdoor championships, some of the Golden Eagles will make the trip to Naperville, Illinois to compete at the Gregory Invitational (May 13-14), which will serve as a tune-up to the NCAA regionals.
The NCAA West Prelims are hosted by the University of Kansas from May 28-30, followed by the NCAA Championships (June 10-13) in Austin, Texas.
