The Golden Eagles are tied for first in the BIG EAST with four regular season games remaining
CHICAGO—Allie Barber's 12th kill of the night tied Marquette's all-time kills record and also served as the match-winning kill on Saturday evening as the 10th-ranked Golden Eagles swept DePaul for a second straight night with scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-21.
Barber has 1,733 career kills tying Theresa Coughlin (2002-05) at the top of the leaderboard.
Adding to Barber's 12 kills was sophomore Ellie Koontz and junior Hope Werch with seven kills apiece and hitting percentages at .429 and .417, respectively. Setters Lauren Speckman and Sarah Rose handed out 17 and 11 assists, respectively, while Martha Konovodoff collected 14 digs for Marquette (23-3, 13-1).
Much like Friday's match in Milwaukee, DePaul (11-15, 3-11) gave the Golden Eagles a fight, taking an early 9-5 lead in the first frame before MU stormed out of a timeout and used a 17-4 run to help close out the set with a 25-21 win. The Blue Demons held a lead in each set and once again the score was tied multiple times in each frame.
"I think DePaul is a much better team than their record and RPI indicate," head coach Ryan Theis said. "The are fourth in the league in offense, seventh in defense, fifth in blocking, but they have lost four or five, five-game matches against teams in the middle of the league, so the fact that we were able to get six sets off them, while not great and stressful at times, but to go on the road and do it- I think our team showed some guts."
Donna Brown, Emma Price and Brittany Maxwell tallied seven kills apiece for DePaul.
The Golden Eagles combined to hit .233 in the match, while holding the Blue Demons to a .103 hitting percentage.
UP NEXT: Marquette returns home for its final regular season home matches as the Golden Eagles host Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 15 followed by Villanova on Saturday, Nov. 16, which will serve as senior day.
