The Golden Eagles have won four in-a-row
BROOKINGS, S.D.—The Marquette women's basketball team earned it's fourth-consecutive win on Tuesday as the Golden Eagles topped South Dakota State, 65-58.
Junior Selena Lott and sophomore Chloe Marotta paced the Golden Eagles (8-2) with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while freshmen Jordan King and Camryn Taylor each added nine points. Down the stretch, Marotta hit 4-for-4 from the free throw line to help stave off the Jackrabbits as they fouled in the final minute of play.
The Golden Eagles showed off stingy defense once again and gave up just 58 points, which matched their season average of opponent points scored.
With 2:20 left in the game MU led by just one point, but 10 made free-throws proved to be the difference in the game. The Golden Eagles took 15 points from 20 South Dakota State turnovers and outrebounded the Jackrabbits (7-6), 36-28.
The Golden Eagles defense allowed just 11 points in the second quarter and overcame a seven-point deficit as MU used a 12-1 run over a 6:55 stretch to take its first lead of the game. Marotta led the team with six points at the break, while Anderson and Spingola each added five points.
Tagyn Larson and Paiton Burckhard led SDSU with 22 and 12 points, respectively.
UP NEXT: Marquette will play in its final non-conference game of the season on Saturday, Dec. 21 when the Golden Eagles host Belmont at 2 p.m. CT.
