King and Spingola lead with 12 points each
MILWAUKEE—A 7-0 run to close out the fourth quarter helped the Marquette women's basketball team to a 53-51 win over Belmont on Saturday afternoon to close out non-conference action leading into a holiday break.
Marquette has won five straight games and heads into BIG EAST play with a 9-2 overall record.
The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as 12 points in the second quarter and only led for nine minutes of the game, but late defense down the stretch to gain key stops over Belmont (5-6) helped secure the win. Senior Isabelle Spingola and freshman Jordan King led Marquette with 12 points apiece, while freshman Camryn Taylor added nine points.
Senior Altia Anderson and redshirt junior Lauren Van Kleunen grabbed eight and seven rebounds, respectively as junior Selena Lott dished out a career-high-tying nine assists.
The Golden Eagles scored 30 of their 53 points in the paint and forced Belmont to commit 19 turnovers.
Maura Muensterman and Ellie Harmeyer led the Bruins with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
UP NEXT: Marquette will open BIG EAST play with three road games beginning Sunday, Dec. 29 at DePaul. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. CT.
