
Marquette Travels To Creighton For BIG EAST Lidlifter

The Marquette University men's basketball team (9-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) travels to Creighton (11-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) for its BIG EAST Conference lidlifter on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 8 p.m. CT in CHI Health Center Omaha. CBS Sports Network will feature the New Year's Day broadcast, with Dave Ryan (play-by-play) and Steve Lappas (analyst) calling the action. Following Wednesday's action, MU returns home to host No. 10/9 Villanova on Jan. 4.
All-Time Series Dates Back To 1922-23
Marquette's all-time series against Creighton spans nearly the entirety of the program's 103-year history.
The teams split the home-and-home series in 2018-19, with each squad winning on the road. In the matchup at Creighton, forward Sam Hauser forced overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer and Markus Howard ended up with a Marquette and BIG EAST record 53 points in the 106-104 overtime win by the Golden Eagles.
Prior to 2013-14, the most recent meeting between the two programs came in the 1998 National Invitation Tournament. MU posted an 80-68 victory in the opening round at the BMO Harris Bradley Center en route to an appearance in the event's quarterfinals.
Marquette has claimed 7-of-10 outings dating back to the 2014-15 campaign.

Marquette didn't begin league affiliation until joining the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1989-90. The 1991-92 campaign was the first in the Great Midwest Conference and a stop in Conference USA preceded the move to the BIG EAST in 2005-06.
In 2018-19, the Golden Eagles opened BIG EAST action with an 89-69 loss at St. John's. MU hasn't began league play with a win on the road since downing Tulane in 2004-05 in the program's final season in C-USA.
