Marquette Drops a Tough 4-3 Battle to Iowa

Eggink, Novakovic and Franks earn singles victories
MILWAUKEE-- The Marquette women's tennis team fought hard, but ultimately dropped a 4-3 decision to Iowa on Sunday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles (5-3) faced off against a good Iowa squad and provided an exciting match that came right down to the wire. The Hawkeyes claimed the doubles point, but Milica Novakovic evened the score as she claimed a swift 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Fleur Eggink followed to give Marquette the advantage with a 6-3, 6-3 decision at the No. 1 position before Iowa surged ahead with a pair of wins. Isabella Franks put the Golden Eagles back in front as she mounted a stellar comeback on a close No. 5 court, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 and Lesley Foe battled right down to the wire before falling in the third set tie-break.
Marquette embarks on a seven-game road swing beginning on Friday, Feb. 22 with a match at Michigan State at 5 p.m. CT.
