Blockton, King and Van Kleunen each record double digits
MILWAUKEE-- The 11th-ranked Marquette women's basketball team fell to Butler on Friday night in a close 61-57 decision that came right down to the wire.Â
Three Golden Eagles scored in double digits as Allazia Blockton paced the squad with 14 points. Danielle King added 10 points, while Lauren Van Kleunen recorded her second career double-double with 10 points and a career-high-tying 11 rebounds for Marquette (22-5, 13-2).
Tori Schickel led four Butler (20-6, 10-5) players in double digits with a game-high 19 points, while Shae Brey grabbed 10 boards.
Marquette held a 34-30 lead at the half, but a series of scoring droughts plagued the squad in the second half as the Golden Eagles were outscored by the Bulldogs, 18-8 in the fourth quarter. MU finished the game shooting just 32.3 percent (20-62) from the floor and finding just 20 points in the paint.Â
The Golden Eagles return to the floor on Sunday for their final regular season home game. Marquette hosts Xavier at 2 p.m. CT, which will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network. Following the game the team will honor its six-member senior class, Allazia Blockton, Sandra Dahling, Erika Davenport, Natisha Hiedeman, Danielle King and Amani Wilborn.
