Golden Eagles travel to Upstate New York before heading back to the Midwest
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's lacrosse team embarks on a two-game road swing in Upstate New York against Canisius on Friday, March 15 at 2 p.m. Central time on ESPN3 followed by Niagara on Sunday, March 17 at 11 a.m. CT.
ÂFollowing the weekend, the Golden Eagles return to the Midwest for its seventh straight away game to finish out a month of road contests at Central Michigan on Thursday, March 21 at 1 p.m. CT.
ÂMARQUETTE (4-4): The Golden Eagles picked up a 19-8 win at Stetson to begin the university's spring break. Four Marquette players recorded hat tricks in the victory, including Grace Gabriel's natural hat trick to open action and four total tallies to lead the team.

ÂCANISIUS (0-6): The Golden Griffins are in search of their first win after dropping each of its six contests to start the season. Most recently, Canisius fell at Yale, 17-7, on Sunday, March 10 and has yet to score more than 10 goals in a game. Canisius is led by Jourdan Roemer with 18 points and 14 goals on the season.
ÂSERIES HISTORY: Friday's meeting marks the first between the programs, making it Marquette's third new opponent in its all-time history of the season (Ohio State; High Point). It also serves as a homecoming of sorts for senior Grace Gabriel, who hails from Lancaster, New York, just 30 minutes east of Canisius' campus.

ÂNIAGARA (3-3): The Purple Eagles won three in-a-row to begin 2019 before dropping the next trio of games. Niagara is 2-0 at home and will take on UMass in DeLand, Florida, on Wednesday before hosting Marquette on Friday. The team is led by Rachel MacCheyne with 27 points and 26 goals.
ÂSERIES HISTORY: Marquette and Niagara have met just once before, when the Golden Eagles defeated the Purples Eagles, 23-15, last March at Valley Fields.

GABRIEL GETS RECOGNITION
Marquette senior midfielder Grace Gabriel was tabbed the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Last season, Gabriel became Marquette's all-time leader in goals, shots and draw controls.
She set program records with 56 goals and 107 draw controls as a junior and earned BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year. The Lancaster, New York native was also picked as a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection in 2017 and 2018, alongside an IWLCA Second Team All- American selection.
ÂSOCCODATO HITS 100
Senior attack Cate Soccodato tallied six assists for six points on Friday, Feb. 15 against Cincinnati to propel her past the 100 career point mark. She's the eighth all-time Marquette women's lacrosse player to reach the feat. Current roster members Grace Gabriel (3rd; 143) and Charlotte McGuire (9th; 83) also rank top-10 in career points at Marquette.
CONTROLLING THE CIRCLE
Grace Gabriel set a single-game program record against Cincinnati with 17 draw controls, outdoing the entire Bearcats team total (16).
THIRD-EVER 2-2 START
The 2-2 start to the 2019 season is the third four-game even-record to begin the year for Marquette. Last year, the Golden Eagles went 2-2 before going on to a 10-8 overall record.
HITTING THE ROAD
Marquette's schedule also includes a month-long road swing spanning from Feb. 23 to March 21. The team will take on Kennesaw State and then opens March at Ohio State and High Point. The Golden Eagles then play Stetson, Canisius and Niagara during Marquette's spring break (March 10-17) before wrapping up the road swing in the Midwest at Central Michigan. Marquette also had a seven-game away stretch in 2017, where the team went 3-4.
