Marquette Earns a Pair of Sweeps in Omaha

The Golden Eagles have swift success on Saturday
OMAHA, Neb.-- The Marquette women's tennis team had a successful day playing two matches in Omaha as the Golden Eagles earned a pair of 4-0 sweeps with wins over Creighton and Omaha-Nebraska on Saturday.
Marquette (8-4) started the morning at fellow BIG EAST school Creighton and got the match started with a swift doubles point as Fleur Eggink and Natalija Popovic won 6-2 at the No. 1 position and Isabella Franks and Milica Novakovic clinched the point at the No. 3 slot with a 6-4 victory. In singles play, Novakovic earned the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 3 position, followed by Alexandrina Chinikova winning at No. 4, 7-5, 6-2. Franks clinched the match at the No. 5 spot with a 6-3, 7-5 win.
In the afternoon the Golden Eagles face the University of Nebraska-Omaha and once again got the ball rolling with the doubles point as the duos of Eggink/Popovic and Chinikova/Franks scored for MU. Elisabeth Desmarais gave Marquette a 2-0 lead as she earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 position. Popovic scored with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 before Eggink clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top spot.
The Golden Eagles will be off until theu depart for a spring break trip out west and take on Loyola Marymount at 9 a.m. CT.
