
Lacrosse falls 15-11 at Villanova

The Golden Eagles return to Milwaukee to host St. John's for Senior Day on April 6
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova's Corey McManus scored seven goals as the Marquette University men's lacrosse team fell to the Wildcats, 15-11, on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.
Andrew Romagnoli paced the Golden Eagles (5-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) with a hat trick and assist, while John Wagner, Connor McClelland, Holden Patterson and Luke Anderson each scored twice.
Anderson, MU's top defensive midfielder, opened the day's scoring with 13:28 remaining in the opening frame and added his second late in the third quarter during a 5-0 MU scoring run.
MU led 3-2 on Wagner's first goal during the opening frame before allowing a 5-0 run by Villanova as the Wildcats built a 7-3 lead with 10:27 left before the half.
The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as six goals, 10-4, following two goals scored to start the third quarter by McManus. They were able to storm back and pull within one, 10-9, with 5:19 left in the third, but the Wildcats scored the next three goals to put away the victory.
McManus joins teammate Keegan Khan as Wildcats to score seven goals against Marquette in the last two games in the series. Khan had seven against Marquette on March 31 of last season in Milwaukee during a 14-9 VU victory.
The Wildcats (6-4, 1-0 BIG EAST) held a 39-34 edge in shots and won 16-of-31 face-offs. Marquette forced Villanova into six failed clears on the afternoon and owned a 29-23 advantage in ground balls.
The Golden Eagles return to Milwaukee to host St. John's on Saturday, April 6 in the first game of a doubleheader with the women's team at Valley Fields. MU will honor its 13-player senior class prior to the game.
