The Golden Eagles snap a five-game skid
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-- The Marquette women's tennis team concluded a seven-game road swing downing Butler, 7-0 on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis. The victory also snapped a five-game skid for the Golden Eagles.
Marquette (9-9) has never lost to Butler as a member of the BIG EAST Conference and opened the match claiming the doubles point as Lesley Foe and Milica Novakovic took a 6-1 win at the No. 2 position, while Alexandrina Chinikova teamed with Elisabeth Desmarais at the No. 3 spot and blanked their opponent, 6-0.
The Golden Eagles rolled through singles play with five of the six matches finishing in two sets. Fleur Eggink took a 6-3, 6-3 win at the top position, while Natalija Popovic won at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-2. Novakovic finished out a perfect individual weekend with a swift 6-0, 6-1 win on the No. 3 court, followed by Chinikova taking care of business, 6-4, 6-4 on court four. Desmarais earned a victory at the No. 5 position, 6-0, 6-1 and Foe completed her perfect day bouncing back with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory at the No. 6 position.
Marquette will play in its final two home matches of the season beginning on Friday, April 5 as the squad takes on reigning BIG EAST champion St. John's at 4 p.m. CT at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The Golden Eagles will also host Seton Hall on Sunday, April 7 at 9 a.m. CT.
