
Eichhorn's 6-under-par Leads MU to 9th Place at Thunderbird Collegiate

Marquette takes Saturday's results into the 2019 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships
PHOENIX — Hunter Eichhorn's closing 68 paced him to a 6-under-par finish and a tie for third place, leading Marquette to a 9-over-par (291-282-288—861) ninth-place showing at the 47th annual Thunderbird Collegiate, hosted by Arizona State.
Senior Oliver Farrell (70-67-72—209) joined Eichhorn in the top 10 with a 4-under-par tie for sixth - both Farrell (No. 60) and Eichhorn (No. 91) entered the week in the nation's top-100 players, according to Golfstat. Twenty top-100 players participated in the Thunderbird Collegiate.
Eichhorn (67-72-68—207) made a four-spot jump up the leaderboard in the final round with a 4-under-par run from holes No. 5 through No. 15 in the third round, where he went bogey-free. He finished in a three-way tie for third, six strokes behind ASU's Chun An Yu, who claimed medalist honors with a 12-under-par 201 performance on Papago G.C.'s, Par 71, 7,333-yard layout.
Eichhorn was 6-under-par on Par 4 holes during tournament play, second-best in the 80-man field, and Farrell was 8-under-par on Par 5 holes, tied for the best total at the Thunderbird Collegiate.
Arizona State used a 7-under-par 277 final round to reach 20-under-par on its home course to top second-place Texas by 12 strokes.
Farrell, who has seven top-10 performances in nine starts this season, shot a 1-over-par 72 in the final round, but was under par for a tournament for the eighth time in 2018-19. His 15 birdies were third-most in the field, while Marquette carded 54 as a team, tied for second-most behind Texas's 60.
The Golden Eagles play next in the 2019 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships, April 26-28 at Callawassie Island G.C. MU has won two of the last four BIG EAST titles, while Eichhorn (2018) and Matthew Bachmann (2017) have won the last two individual championships.
