
Marquette Hosts No. 24 Georgetown for Senior Day, PanCAN Game

The Golden Eagles will recognize its nine-member senior class prior to first draw
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's lacrosse team wraps up regular season action against No. 24 Georgetown on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. Central time. The game will be played inside of the seasonal dome at Valley Fields with expected inclement weather in the Milwaukee area.

The contest doubles as Senior Day and the team's annual PanCAN game. Marquette will honor its nine-player senior class prior to the game against the Hoyas and utilize the matchup to raise funds and awareness for the Milwaukee affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

SENIOR DAY
The 2019 senior class made history as Marquette made its first trip to the BIG EAST Semifinals last season and notched its second-ever postseason appearance this year. The nine seniors combined for over 30 wins, including a 16-13 mark in conference play, while totaling over 500 points, more than 450 draw controls and over 350 goals in the last four years.Â

Three senior class members rank top-10 all-time in points, goals and assists, while Grace Gabriel became Marquette's all-time points leader this season with 191 and counting, surpassing the previous record of 169. Gabriel marked the program's first All-American with IWLCA second-team honors last season. She also earned BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year in 2018, while Cate Soccodato was also on the All-BIG EAST squad as a second-team selection.

PANCAN GAME
Each year, the Marquette women's lacrosse program dedicates a game to supporting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, otherwise known as PanCAN.

"This is the eighth year that the team has taken on the fight against Pancreatic Cancer, and I know firsthand that our fundraising is making a difference," head coach Meredith Black said.

Fans who wear purple will get receive free admission but must redeem this at the ticket booth at Valley Fields. A representative from the Milwaukee affiliate of the network will be at a table near the entrance of the dome where donations will be collected, and donations can also be made online at http://support.pancan.org/goto/muwlax.

Following the contest, the Golden Eagles will host the BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Championship for the first time in league history. Marquette will host Georgetown as well as No. 14 Denver and Villanova on May 2 and 4 at Valley Fields.

MARQUETTE (8-8, 2-2 BIG EAST):Â Despite a setback at No. 14 Denver last Friday, the Golden Eagles were able to clinch a BIG EAST Tournament berth for the second consecutive season. Grace Gabriel led Marquette with four goals as the team posted the most goals by a Pios opponent in over a month. The senior earned mention on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts, which also included seven draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.Â

NO. 24 GEORGETOWN (9-7, 3-1 BIG EAST):The Hoyas have yet to drop a conference road contest and most recently took down Old Dominion, 18-4, last Saturday. Georgetown is led by Morgan Ryan with 38 goals on the season, while Francesca Whitehurst has totaled 55 points off of 30 goals and 25 assists.

SERIES HISTORY:Â The Golden Eagles will be looking to upend history on Saturday, as the Hoyas lead the series 6-0. Marquette most recently fell to Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on April 21, 2018, when junior goalkeeper Jules Horning made a program-record 19 saves in the 9-8 loss. Half of the matchups in this series have been decided by a single goal.
GABRIEL GETS RECOGNITION
Marquette senior midfielder Grace Gabriel was tabbed the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Last season, Gabriel became Marquette's all-time leader in goals, shots and draw controls. She set program records with 56 goals and 107 draw controls as a junior and earned BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year. The Lancaster, New York native was also picked as a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection in 2017 and 2018, alongside an IWLCA Second Team All- American selection.

Grace Gabriel became the Marquette women's lacrosse program's all-time points leader on Sunday, March 17 at Niagara. Her goal to begin the second half against the Purple Eagles propelled her past Claire Costanza's mark of 169 career points.

SOCCODATO HITS 100
Senior attack Cate Soccodato tallied six assists for six points on Friday, Feb. 15 against Cincinnati to propel her past the 100 career point mark. She's the eighth all-time Marquette women's lacrosse player to reach the feat. Current roster members Grace Gabriel and Charlotte McGuire also rank belong to the 100-point club.

Graduate student Charlotte McGuire became the ninth player in program history to reach 100 career points in Marquette's contest at High Point on March 16, 2018. She recorded four goals to surpass the mark.

HORNING WINNINGEST GOALIE
Junior goalkeeper Jules Horning became the program's winningest goalie on Saturday, April 13 at Old Dominion. Her six saves secured her 19thoverall victory in the net for the Golden Eagles (19-20-0).

Grace Gabriel set a single-game program record against Cincinnati with 17 draw controls, outdoing the entire Bearcats team total (16). She also passed her own single-season program mark for draw controls against No. 14 Denver, eclipsing the record of 107 she set just last season.

Marquette made its first BIG EAST Championships appearance last year after defeating UConn in the final regular season contest. The Golden Eagles earned its second consecutive postseason berth last Friday, despite a setback at Denver, as Old Dominion and Butler fell out of contention.
