Marquette concludes action at the Drake Relays

The Golden Eagles have just one meet remaining prior to the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up action at the 2019 Drake Relays on Saturday afternoon at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Sophomore Samuel Johnson led the way with a third-place finish in the men's long jump with a new personal-best distance of 7.15 meters (23 feet, 5.5 inches). Johnson recorded his top mark on his first jump of the day and now sits ninth in program history in the event. Johnson, the 2018 BIG EAST Outdoor Champion, trails Olympians John Bennett (1956) and John Brennan (1908), who sit atop MU's record book.
Classmate Lindsey Mirkes also recorded a third-place finish in the women's high jump at a height of 1.71 meters (5-7.25), just shy of her own personal best.
In the relays, the team of William Eggers, Joe Keys, Jeff Garbut, Sam Sagan took third in the men's 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:20.50. The Golden Eagles also competed in the sprint medley relay and finished eighth and 10th on the men's and women's sides, respectively.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, May 3 in Madison, Wis., at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic before the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 10-11 at Icahn Stadium in New York.
