Lesley Foe clinches the match for the Golden Eagles

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis team returned home after a seven-match absence and toppled reigning BIG EAST Champion St. John, 4-0 on Friday evening at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles got on board first winning the doubles point as Fleur Eggink and Natalija Popovic claimed a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 position with Lesley Foe and Milica Novakovic clinching the point in a 7-5 decision at the No. 3 slot.

In singles play Elisabeth Desmarais put the Golden Eagles ahead 2-0 as she won at the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 6-4 and a gutsy 6-2, 7-5 win from Novakovic extended the lead to 3-0. Novakovic stayed strong and fought for each point down the stretch to pull out the win. As the final singles matches were back-and-forth contests Foe earned the match-clinching win with a 6-3, 6-3 win on the No. 6 court.

Marquette is back in action on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT for its final home match of the season. The Golden Eagles host Seton Hall continuing a stretch of BIG EAST matches.
