Yass scores twice as MU downs Regina, 5-0

The Golden Eagles held a 22-3 advantage in shots against their Canadian counterparts
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette women's soccer team kicked off its 2019 season with a convincing 5-0 exhibition victory over the University of Regina Cougars on Wednesday night at Valley Fields.

Graduate student Bri Jaeger scored the first goal of the year for MU on a header in the 10th minute off a beautiful cross from Maura Weaver. Fellow grad student Natalie Yass put the Golden Eagles up by two after scoring an unassisted goal from just inside the box in the 42nd minute.

MU controlled the pace of play in the first half, maintaining possession for 30 of the 45 minutes of play. Coach Roeders' squad out-shot the Cougars 11-0 in the first stanza, with four of those shots coming on goal.

The Golden Eagles shot out to a red-hot start in half number two, scoring two goals in the first eight minutes of action to double their lead. Freshman Alex Campana tallied the first goal of her collegiate career in the 52nd minute off a pass from Emily Hess. Less than a minute later, Natalie Yass notched her second goal of the night, officially putting the game out of reach.

Redshirt junior forward Abby Hess made her mark on the action with an unassisted goal in the 87th minute, putting the Golden Eagles up 5-0. On the game, MU outshot the Cougars 22-3, with 13 of its shots coming on goal.

The Golden Eagles take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a final tune-up game before the start of their regular season on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. in Notre Dame, Indiana.

MU's season lid-lifter takes place on Thursday, Aug. 22 at Colorado State. Marquette also plays road games at Ball State (Aug. 25) and Wisconsin (Aug. 29) before returning to Milwaukee for its home opener against Michigan on Sept. 1 at 2:30 p.m.
