Game ends in a tie despite MU outshooting Loyola Chicago 16-5
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's soccer team battled its way to a 0-0 draw in an exhibition match against the Loyola Chicago Ramblers on Saturday evening at Loyola Soccer Park.
Â
The Golden Eagles outshot their opposition 16-5, including 8-1 in the second half, but couldn't break through and had to settle for a scoreless tie. MU also won the corner kick battle, 12-2.
Â
14th-year head coach Louis Bennett allowed 25 players to enter the game as he prepares his team for the regular season, which begins at the end of the month. Ten freshmen and two transfers also made their MU debut this afternoon for Bennett's squad.
Â
Senior Josh Coan led the team with three shots (one on goal), while freshmen AJ Franklin, Jonathan Robinson and Christian Marquez tallied two shots apiece. Gannon University (Pa.) transfer Sam Thornton posted two shots as well.
Â
Sophomore Cedrik Stern started in goal for the Golden Eagles and played 30 minutes, but didn't face any serious threats from the opposition. Freshmen Jackson Weyman (45 minutes) and Michael Diaz (15 minutes) also saw action at goalkeeper. None of Loyola Chicago's five shots came on goal.
