The Golden Eagles host Fan Fest on Sunday at Valley Fields
MILWAUKEE – Freshman Christian Marquez and senior Connor Alba scored to push the Marquette University men's soccer team past No. 9 Notre Dame, 2-1, on Wednesday evening in exhibition action at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the 16th minute as Marquez headed in a ball from 15 yards over the outstretched arms of ND's 6-foot-7 keeper Duncan Turnball. The score was assisted by Sam Thornton, who got his head on a cross near the goal box before Marquez knocked in the score.
Marquette controlled play to start the match, notching three corner kicks and a pair of shots prior to its first goal.
Notre Dame got on the board late in the second half as Ian Aschieris knocked in a shot from the right side of the box after a Felicien Dumas shot ricocheted out from the 6-yard box.
Alba struck right after the half, scoring from the right side in the 49th minute to give Marquette the lead for good.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, Aug. 25 at Valley Fields when they host Fan Fest at 1 p.m., followed by their final exhibition match against the Milwaukee Torrent at 3:05 p.m. Central time.
