The Golden Eagles will take on rv UCF, No. 14 Illinois and Illinois State
MILWAUKEE – The seventh-ranked Marquette volleyball team is set for the 2019 Redbird Classic Presented by The Edge Apartments, hosted by Illinois State University.
It will be a loaded slate for the Golden Eagles as they open weekend action against RV UCF on Friday, Sept. 13 at 4:30 p.m. CT in Normal, Ill. On Saturday, Sept. 14 MU faces off against No. 14 Illinois in a re-match from the 2018 Sweet 16 in which the Illini won, 3-0. The Golden Eagles will close out the weekend against the Redbirds, also a 2018 NCAA Tournament team.
Marquette will live stream the UCF and Illinois match from its Facebook account, which will have only natural audio. MU's match vs. Illinois State will be shown on ESPN+.

OPPONENTS
RV UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA (5-1): UCF is coming off a strong showing at the UCF Challenge in which the Knights made a complete sweep of all three opponents. Leading the way is sophomore McKenna Melville who has 85 kills on the season for 3.86 per set. UCF also remains steady with a pair of sisters as setters in Erin and Amber Olson, who average 5.91 and 5.38 assists per set respectively. Additionally, UCF currently has four players attacking at or above .300.
Friday marks the second meeting between the two programs with Marquette owning a 1-0 record over the Knights.
No. 14 ILLINOIS (2-2): After winning their first two games to start the season over Tennessee, Illinois struggled in the Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge, losing to No. 16 Washington and then getting swept by Colorado in three tight contests. The matchup against Colorado is also the only match for the Illini that hasn't gone to five sets. Some players to watch out for are redshirt freshman Diana Brown, who is dishing out a stellar 10.78 assists per set as well as 49 digs, and senior Jacqueline Quade, who has racked up 5.29 kills per set while hitting at a .279 clip.
Illinois is 5-0 over Marquette in the season series with the most recent meeting coming in the NCAA Round of 16 where the Illini defeated MU, 3-0.
ILLINOIS STATE (5-1): The Redbirds are fired up after winning the Oral Roberts Invitational last weekend, beating both Little Rock and ORU in three straight sets and finally Air Force 3-2. For her outstanding performance with 19 kills, junior Kaylee Martin was not only named MVP of the invitational but was also named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. This weekend, keep an eye on juniors Kendall Meier, Sydney Holt, and Stef Jankiewicz who are attacking at .333, .328, and .319 respectively. Illinois State has a stingy defense and as a team is attacking at a .242 clip while holding their opponents to just .156.
