MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's soccer team hosts its final two non-conference matches of the fall this weekend, beginning with a Friday, Sept. 20 matchup with Northern Illinois at Valley Fields.
The 5 p.m. match precedes the men's BIG EAST opener against Creighton at 7 p.m. and is part of Marquette's 'Area 51 Night.'
The doubleheader includes a specially-branded stadium cup giveaway for the first 500 fans in attendance. A beer truck featuring Miller products will be available before each match to those 21-and-older. Tickets for the men's or women's match will be good for admission to both contests.
MU and Northern Illinois have meet seven times previously, but Friday's game marks the first matchup in 19 years.
The Golden Eagles will also take on Colorado State at 1 p.m. on Sunday as part of their in-season home-and-home with the Rams, against whom they kicked off the regular season on Aug. 22. CSU's leading scorer Caeley Lordemann scored twice and MU keeper Maddy Henry made 10 saves to become Marquette's all-time leader as the Golden Eagles fell 2-0 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Both the NIU and CSU games will air live on Marquette's All-Access player and live statistics will also be available through GoMarquette.com. The Marquette Wire's Dan Avington and John Leuzzi will handle the call on Friday, while Chris Reisner will call the rematch against the Rams on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles will have a full week off following the CSU match before opening BIG EAST Conference play against defending champion Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Sept. 29.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING…
"Colorado State is very physical, I remember that. It was my first game but I'm really excited to play them again. I've learned a lot and I think our team's gotten a lot better too. I think we're all really excited to play them again." – freshman defender Addie Shock
"It's going to be pretty nice (being at home this weekend). Especially after the last result at Valley Fields, I think we're all looking forward to getting back to our home field, protect the Valley again and get better results than we did last time. Right now, every game for us is a challenge and we're really just working on what we can do to get better. Colorado State, the last time we played them it could have been a lot better for us, but I just don't think our mentality was there." – freshman defender Josie Kelderman
"(Northern Illinois) is a hard-working team and it is going to be important that we really put our front forward first to put a little pressure on the gas. Kind of absorb the first 10 or 15 minutes but still impose our game onto a team. There's been a few games where we've done that, and it's led to success. We want to continue to find ourselves." – Marquette assistant coach Nick Vorberg
"It's a nice little stepping stone for us to go into the BIG EAST. We want to look at the first game first and take care of business as much as we can and then look at the next game. It's important, but Colorado State also has Friday and Sunday games as well. They're doing that on the road and we went to them to begin the season. They took care of their business at home, so we want to do that same thing." – Vorberg
YASS TAKES ON FORMER TEAM IN NIU
• Marquette graduate student Natalie Yass will play against her former team on Friday night in Northern Illinois. Yass played three seasons for the Huskies from 2016-18, posting 15 points on three goals and nine assists while starting 48 of 59 career matches. She has played in all seven regular season contests this year for Marquette, starting the first three contests, and scored a pair of goals in MU's exhibition opener against the University of Regina on Aug. 14. The Waukesha, Wisconsin native graduated this past summer from NIU with a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences.
STARTING LINEUP ROTATION CONTINUES
• Marquette head coach Markus Roeders has used a different starting lineup for all seven matches so far in 2019. Goalkeeper Maddy Henry, midfielder Maddie Monticello along with defenders Bri Jaeger and Emily Hess are the only four players to have started every contest. Kylie Sprecher and Abby Hess have started all but one match apiece at forward, while Katrina Wetherell and Rachel Johnson can say the same in the midfield. Freshman Josie Kelderman, who has solidified herself as MU's starting right back, started the season opener at Colorado State in the midfield.
• Marquette rolled out 11 different starting lineups during the 2018 season. Henry, Jaeger and Emily Hess started all 18 matches on the back end and were joined by then-freshman Wetherell, who started every match in the midfield.
