Marquette Sends Four to Compete in the 44th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE β The Marquette University women's tennis team will open fall competition for the 2019-20 season at the 44th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic (MTC) this weekend from Sept. 20-23.

The preliminary rounds of the tournament will take place at the Milwaukee Country Club in River Hills, Wis. and the finals will be hosted at Western Racquet Club in Elm Grove, Wis. The classic has continued with its expanded field from last year that includes 32 teams for doubles and 64 for singles.

Marquette will be sending four players to this year's MTC with seniors Fleur Eggink and Lesley Foe, junior Natalija Popovic, and sophomore newcomer Giulia Turconi opening play on Friday.

The initial draws for women's singles and doubles will begin on Friday, Sept. 20 with the round of 32 and 16 following on Saturday. On Sunday, the tournament will continue with the quarterfinal and semifinal matches with the finals commencing on Monday, Sept. 23. There will also be events on the consolation side of the bracket on Saturday and Sunday.

This is one of the most competitive competitions in the country, being labeled as a gold level intercollegiate tournament by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The single winners from this tournament will earn a wild card bid to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships at Newport Beach Country Club from Nov. 6-10.
