Lauren Speckman recorded her fourth double-double for the Golden Eagles
MILWAUKEE— The 10th-ranked Marquette volleyball team won its sixth consecutive match on Friday with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-13) sweep over Seton Hall.
The Golden Eagles improve to a 12-2 record with a perfect 2-0 mark in the first week of BIG EAST play.
Senior Allie Barber led all with 16 kills in the three sets and hit at a .429 clip with just one error, while freshman Hannah Vanden Berg had a hot night recording nine kills, six digs and three service aces. Junior Kaitlyn Lines tallied eight kills with nine digs and three blocks as senior Gwyn Jones connected on five kills.
Senior Lauren Speckman totaled her fourth double-double of the season dishing out 26 assists with 14 digs and sophomore Claire Mosher handed out 19 assists. Junior libero Martha Konovodoff collected 15 digs in the sweep.
Marquette took set one from the Pirates, 25-19 behind four kills from Barber as Vanden Berg heated up in the second frame recording five of her nine kills to help the Golden Eagles to a 25-17 win. In the third set, Marquette jumped out early and never trailed making quick work of the Pirates, while freshman Claire Nuessmeier earned her first career kills in the match, including a first career match-winner to pick up the sweep for the Golden Eagles.
Seton Hall (5-10, 0-1) was led by Julia Wilkins with seven kills, as Raygan Murray and Haylee Gasser collected 17 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Golden Eagles will host St. John's on Saturday evening with first serve slated for 5 p.m. CT. The Redstorm enter the match with a league victory over DePaul on Friday night.
