Marquette dropped its BIG EAST Conference opener in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON – The Marquette University women's soccer team fell to No. 12 Georgetown, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in the BIG EAST Conference opener at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C.
Amanda Carolina scored two goals and Julia Leas posted the match winner for the Hoyas (7-2-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST), who improve to 8-3-1 all-time against Marquette. GU held a 20-5 edge in shots on the day and took six of the game's 10 corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Maddy Henry made three saves for the Golden Eagles (3-7-0, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) in 84 minutes, while freshman Mel McNamara saw action in net for the second match in a row.
Leas struck first for the Hoyas in the 16 minute and GU held a 1-0 edge at the break after outshooting Marquette, 8-2, over the first 45 minutes. The Golden Eagles won a pair of early corner kicks to begin the match and Henry made five first half saves.
Carolan's goals came in the 49th and 82nd minutes and were her sixth and seventh through 10 matches this season.
Marquette used a repeat starting lineup against the Hoyas for the first time this season. Entering the contest, head coach Markus Roeders had used a different lineup for all nine of MU's previous matches.
Marquette falls to 10-5 in BIG EAST lid-lifters, including a mark of 4-4 when those are on the road.
The Golden Eagles return to Milwaukee to host Providence and Creighton on Thursday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 6, respectively, on Marquette Homecoming Weekend.
