Sophomore Tyler Leach is tied for third after two rounds at Windsong Farm
INDEPENDENCE, Minnesota – Sophomore Tyler Leach is tied for third and the Marquette University men's golf team sits fifth through 36 holes at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota.
After beginning his first round on No. 10 with a bogey, Leach reeled off birdies on Nos. 11 and 12 and added two more on 16 and 17 before making the turn. The Spring Lake, Wisconsin native carded a 4-under par 67 to lead the field after the first round and followed it up with a 70 in the second to sit at 5-under (67-70—137) heading into Monday's final 18.
Senior Matt Murlick (74-69—143) was the low man for the Golden Eagles in the second round with a 2-under 69. He and junior Hunter Eichhorn (72-72—143) are tied for 19th at 1-over par through 36 holes.
Play resumes at 7:15 a.m. on Monday morning with Oklahoma, Utah and Kent State teeing off on the first hole. Freshman Bhoom Sima-Aree is slated for Marquette's first tee time at 8 a.m., playing with Luis Garza of Arkansas and Purdue's Peyton Snoeberger. Leach will be the final Golden Eagle off the first tee at 8:36 a.m.

PIONEER CREEK COLLEGIATE: Marquette freshmen Josh Robinson and Aidan Lafferty began their NCAA careers on Saturday at the Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, Minnesota and concluded the event with the third round on Sunday.
Playing as individuals, Robinson (-5) tied for sixth with a 54-hole score of 211 (69-74-68) and Lafferty tied for 11th at 3-under (69-74-70—213). The pair was just one stroke off the lead after the first round on Saturday morning.

Following Monday's final round at Windsong Farm, the Golden Eagles will take part in Northwestern's Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 16-17 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. The Golden Eagles won the event last season at The Knollwood Club, led by Oliver Farrell's third-place finish at 7-under par.
