FS Wisconsin to feature broadcast
The Marquette University men's basketball team (11-5, 1-3 BIG EAST) returns to Fiserv Forum Wednesday night to host Xavier (12-5, 1-3 BIG EAST) in BIG EAST Conference action at 7 p.m. CT. FS Wisconsin will feature the broadcast, with Brandon Gaudin (play-by-play) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) calling the action. Following Wednesday's outing, the Golden Eagles hit the road to face Georgetown on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. CT.
Series With Musketeers Spans 50 Years
Marquette and Xavier will meet for the 76th time on Wednesday night, continuing a series that spans nearly half of the program's 102-year history.
The Golden Eagles own a 51-24 overall lead in matchups that date back to the 1958-59 campaign, but XU has claimed 9-of-14 since the Musketeers joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2013-14. MU dominated the pairings during the Al McGuire and Hank Raymonds era, at one point claiming 26-straight victories between 1969 and 1983.
The lone NCAA tournament meeting came in 2010-11 and resulted in a 66-55 Marquette win in the opening round and started the team's run to a Sweet 16 appearance. XU posted a 67-63 win over MU at home in the 2000 National Invitation Tournament.
Howard Moving Up BIG EAST List
Keeping track of Markus Howard's assault on the record books is a full-time job and with the start of league play, his move up the leaderboard now includes the BIG EAST's all-time lists.
Following his 27 points in the loss to Seton Hall, Howard is now in possession of 1,183 points in league matchups, good enough for 11th on the all-time list. He recently passed Kelan Martin (Butler - 1,101 - 2014-18) and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Georgetown - 1,113 - 2012-16), giving Howard the highest total of any player from a current member of the BIG EAST.
Laurence Moten (Syracuse, 1991-95) is the BIG EAST's all-time leading scorer with 1,405 points.
