FS1 to feature 7:30 p.m. CT broadcast
The Marquette University men's basketball team (14-6, 4-4 BIG EAST) wraps up a two-game road swing at Xavier (13-7, 2-5 BIG EAST) Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. CT in the Cintas Center. FS1 features the national television broadcast, with Thom Brennaman (play-by-play) and Nick Bahe (analyst) calling the action. Following Wednesday's game, the Golden Eagles begin a stretch that sees the team play three of its next four at home, beginning Feb. 1 vs. DePaul.
Series With Musketeers Spans 50 Years
Marquette and Xavier will meet for the 77th time on Wednesday night, continuing a series that spans nearly half of the program's 102-year history.
The Golden Eagles own a 52-24 overall lead in matchups that date back to the 1958-59 campaign and have claimed each of the last three meetings and 5-of-7 overall. MU dominated the pairings during the Al McGuire and Hank Raymonds era, at one point claiming 26-straight victories between 1969 and 1983.
The lone NCAA tournament meeting came in 2010-11 and resulted in a 66-55 Marquette win in the opening round and started the team's run to a Sweet 16 appearance. XU posted a 67-63 win over MU at home in the 2000 National Invitation Tournament.
Marquette claimed the first meeting this season, earning an 85-65 decision on Jan. 15. Markus Howard led four scorers in double figures with 35 points and MU's defense held Xavier to 35.9 percent shooting from the field.
Howard Poised To Reach Another Milestone
Senior guard Markus Howard already has a myriad of accomplishments to this point in his career and he is poised to reach yet another milestone Wednesday night.
Howard is currently in possession of 2,492 career points and will become the 72nd player in NCAA history to score at least 2,500 points, more than likely at Xavier. He is also rapidly approaching his brother Jordan, who played at Central Arkansas (2015-18), and owns 2,524 points to tie for 59th.
