The Golden Eagles earn first BIG EAST win wrapping three-game trip
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The Marquette women's basketball team concluded a three-game road swing on a high note as the Golden Eagles rolled past Providence, 60-50 on Sunday afternoon.
The victory marks head coach Megan Duffy's first BIG EAST win at the helm of the Golden Eagles (10-4, 1-2).
Lauren Van Kleunen's 18 points paced Marquette, while Jordan King added 11 points. Altia Anderson pulled down a game-high nine rebounds as MU combined to dominate the glass, 43-24.
The Golden Eagles trailed by a point at halftime, 27-26, and outscored the Friars (9-7, 0-4) 34-23 in the second half and finished with a 41.7 percent (20-48) mark from the floor. Marquette has shot over 40 percent in 12 of the 14 games this season.
Mary Baskerville led Providence with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Kaela Webb connected for 10 points.
It was the fifth straight win over the Friars for MU.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles return home and will host St. John's on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. CT.
