Leva keyed the outreach to quarantined student-athletes
MILWAUKEE - Redshirt junior women's lacrosse goalie Sophia Leva is the Baird Blue & Gold Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2020, as chosen by Marquette Athletics' Academics and Student Programs staff.
Sophia has taken an active role in SHAPE (Student Health Allied & Peer Educators) reaching out to peers who are isolated or quarantined due to COVID-19. She has included others in creating outreach to these peers so they continue to feel connected to their sport and their team, and to others in athletics during their time of isolation.
She has been creative in coming up with ideas to keep student-athletes connected, even in this time of distancing. Always positive and inclusive, Sophia has helped create a caring supportive environment in difficult circumstances. Leva is focused on wellness, both as lifestyle and in her major of exercise physiology. She was an intern in the Marquette University Wellness Clinic, has worked as lifeguard and swim instructor, as well as training and competing with the women's lacrosse team. This year, she was named co-captain by her teammates.
Leva is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma (National Student Athlete Honor Society), three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection and has received recognition on both the Athletics Director's Honor Roll and the College of Health Sciences' Dean's List. Her minor is Spanish for the Health Professions.
