Ana Pimienta | 2012-15 | La Herradura, Mexico
Current Location: New York City, NY
Employer/ Profession: I work at Deloitte providing consulting services to companies with global mobility programs.
I took a job at Deloitte right after graduation and have been there since. I started in the Milwaukee office and two years ago I transferred to NY.
Favorite Memories: There are several things that stand out in my memory of Marquette. My teammates who I shared countless memories with including those killer workouts coming back from winter break. They really tested how many times we got up from bed to do more than climb the stairs up and down your room.
My coaches Jody, and Maggie. Those women wouldn't take less than your best and cared to push you when you were not.
I also remember that as a student-athlete we were constantly stretching - not in the literal sense, in fact that was the least thing we did. But in the figurative sense. You were either training to win your next match; trying to do one more chin-up or push-up; studying to pass your test (hopefully also get good grades); getting up to speed with homework while you were on the road; or even mundane things as getting up early on the weekends to do laundry at the old gym before they were occupied. There is always a feeling of discomfort associated with those things, but you learn to accept it. You lose the fear of being outside your comfort zone. That helped me mentally when I entered the workforce.
One of the matches that I will always remember was our win against Wisconsin on their home court. It was my sophomore year (2012) and I clinched the match in three sets playing on the number one spot, I don't think we'd beat them in a long time, since 2000! That win was very special for me since I had barely been on the line up my freshman year. Two years later we beat them again.
Fun Facts: I have a few fun facts. This may surprise people, but the Starbucks on 16th street was the only place where I could study! If I was not at the gym or the tennis courts, I was there. Coach Rodecap will attest to this since he saw me there every time he stopped to get coffee before their practice. I don't know if it was the noise of the coffee grinding machine/the blender, the crowds, or the low lights but it was the only place where I could study. I probably suffer some hearing loss because it was so loud in there, but I I could not have done it without it.
I technically have never hit a forehand. I play two handed and switch hands so I technically have a backhand of a lefty (my version of forehand) and backhand of a lefty (my true backhand).
Another fun fact is that I re-met my now husband at Marquette. We knew each other from Junior tournaments in Mexico since I was 14 but we lost track of each other for a few years. I had no idea he'd ended up at Marquette and had no idea where Marquette was. The colleges I was applying to were primarily in Texas and California since that's what I grew up being familiar with. One day my sister had a party at our house and I ended up talking to one of her friends who was a fan of collegiate basketball and who told me he was a fan of Marquette. Shortly after I looked up the school, emailed the coaches and the rest is history.
Coach Rodecap on Pimienta: I had the pleasure of getting to know Ana very well during her time at Marquette and admired her accomplishments as both a student and an athlete. She was a tireless worker on and off the court and is perhaps the most fierce competitor that has come through the program during my time here. She represented our program in a first class manner and will always be a great ambassador for Marquette.
