Series With Pirates Dates Back To 1956
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series with Seton Hall, 19-11, with all but one of the matchups coming after MU joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005-06.
SHU opened the series with a 96-78 victory over Marquette on March 17, 1956 in MU's first-ever appearance in the National Invitation Tournament in New York. The next meeting wouldn't come until 50 years later when Marquette moved to the BIG EAST.
After SHU's 88-79 victory in the home finale last year at Fiserv Forum, the Pirates have now claimed four-straight wins over the Golden Eagles.
Marquette Claims Second Top-10 Win
Marquette rallied for an 89-84 win at No. 9/9 Creighton Monday night in the BIG EAST opener, claiming the team's second win against a top-10 opponent in 2020-21.
Freshman forward Justin Lewis' tip-in at the buzzer gave the Golden Eagles a 67-65 win over No. 4/7 Wisconsin on Dec. 4 at Fiserv Forum. Marquette now owns 48 victories all-time against top-10 foes and 127 versus teams ranked in the top-25.
Marquette last defeated a pair of top-10 opponents in the same season in 2016-17 when the Golden Eagles won at No. 7 Creighton (Jan. 21, 2017) in overtime and at home against No. 1 Villanova (Jan. 24, 2017) in back-to-back outings.
MU's win on Monday night was the program's fourth in the last five visits to the CHI Health Center Omaha.
