Freshman Dawson Garcia tallied 18 points and seven rebounds for Marquette (4-1), which also got solid scoring contributions from D.J. Carton (nine), Jamal Cain and Theo John (eight).
For Green Bay, PJ Pipes totaled 22 points, while Josh Jefferson (17) and Japannah Kellogg III (11) also put up double digits.Â
Marquette leads the all-time series, 10-3, over Green Bay with all of one of those contests coming in Milwaukee.
Notables:
- Marquette shared the ball well in the game, with 15 team assists paced by McEwen's four.Â
- The Golden Eagles, who boast the BIG EAST's top scoring defense and lowest opponent field goal and 3-point percentage, held UWGB to 29.6% from beyond the arc and 39.7% from the field.
- McEwen's 28 is his high in a Marquette uniform, although his collegiate high came when he scored 32 in 2018 while at Utah State.
- At halftime, Garcia led MU with 13 points in just 13 minutes on the court.
- In addition to his eight points, Theo John had a game-high 12 rebounds and three blocks.
- As a team, Marquette went 12-for-12 from the free throw line.
- For the Phoenix, Josh Jefferson had a team-high six assists and Pipes added seven boards.
- MU's next contest is the program's first game against UCLA since 1964.
Marquette makes its first trip to Pauley Pavilion in program history later this week with a Friday matchup with UCLA. The game is set to tip at 8:30 p.m. Central time and will air on the Pac-12 Network.Â
