MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team lost 11-9 to Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles (2-1) received a hat trick from freshman midfielder Chris Kirschner, while senior Connor McClelland scored twice and junior goalie John Hulsman made 11 saves in net.
Garrett Moya's first goal of the season was the first of the day before JU ripped off four-straight, including a natural hat trick from Jacob Greiner, to put the Dolphins up 4-1.
The two squads were all square, 5-5, through the first half of action and Peter Henkhaus gave MU the first lead of the second half less than a minute into the third quarter.
JU used five straight scores spanning the third and fourth quarters to take a commanding 11-7 lead before a pair of late tallies from Kirschner in the final six minutes of regulation. He and Anthony Orsini (2018) are the only two players in school history to score two goals in their first three collegiate outings.
Jacksonville (1-1) wins its first game against Marquette since 2014 after losing each of the previous four meetings. The Dolphins out-shot MU, 38-30, and forced MU into 24 turnovers and eight failed clears.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. Central time against Detroit Mercy in Pontiac, Michigan at Ultimate Soccer Arenas.
