MU clinches a first-round bye in the BIG EAST Tournament
WASHINGTON D.C.— Selena Lott's 18 points lead three Golden Eagles in double figures as the Marquette women's basketball team topped Georgetown, 76-56 on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Gymnasium.
Altia Anderson added a career-high 16 points, while Lauren Van Kleunen added 15 points in the win. Marquette (21-7, 12-5) clinched a first-round bye in the BIG EAST Tournament for the fifth consecutive season, and will play its first game in the quarterfinals on March 7
Van Kleunen added a game-high nine rebounds as the Golden Eagles won the battle on the backboards, 41-28 and took 42 of their 76 points in the paint.
The Golden Eagles shot extremely well in the first half, connecting for 63 percent, including 75 percent on 9-for-12 shooting in the second frame and continued that trend in the second half finishing with a 55.8 percent clip from the floor in the four quarters combined.
Georgetown was led by Taylor Barnes with 15 points as Brianna Jones added 11 for the Hoyas.
UP NEXT: A final regular season game remains as Marquette will host DePaul on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. CT. The game will air on FS2.
