Team picks up fourth consecutive victory
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's tennis team defeated DePaul University, 5-2, in a long-fought battle on Thursday evening.
The Golden Eagles (6-5) have now won four in a row thanks to a match-clincher from Elisabeth Desmarais.
The team managed to lock in the doubles point with a 6-4 victory from Lesley Foe and Tiana Windbuchler in the No. 2 spot, while Isabella Franks and Elisabeth Desmarais won a close 7-5 matchup in the 3 spot.
In singles, Milica Novakovic, Lesley Foe, and Elisabeth Desmarais each needed three sets to claim their points in the No. 2, 5, and 6 spots respectively. Natalija Popovic earned the No. 3 singles point in only two sets.
The Blue Demons (4-7) dropped their third consecutive matchup. Lenka Antonijevic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva combined for a 7-6 win in No. 1 doubles. Aspasia Avgeri took the No. 1 singles point and Lenka Antonijevic won in the 4 spot.
The Golden Eagles will remain at home and face Xavier University on Saturday, Feb. 29 with doubles play scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
