The Marquette University men's basketball team (18-11, 8-9 BIG EAST) concludes the regular season on Saturday, March 7 when the squad travels to St. John's (15-15, 4-13 BIG EAST) for an 11 a.m. CT matchup at Madison Square Garden.  FS Wisconsin features the broadcast, with Brian Custer (play-by-play) and Len Elmore (analyst) calling the action.  Marquette will return to Milwaukee after the game before returning to New York City for the BIG EAST Tournament next week.
Al McGuire Ties Marquette And St. John'sÂ
  Â
The all-time series (Marquette leads 22-14) began in 1959-60 and prior to the clinching of the BIG EAST title on the last day of the regular season in 2012-13, the series' top highlight was a 65-53 Marquette victory in the championship game of the 1970 National Invitation Tournament. Â
  Â
MU claimed the title under the direction of legendary head coach Al McGuire, who played for three seasons at St. John's (1948-51). In his first season with the Redmen, he finished third in scoring with an 8.1 points per game average. Â
  Â
The next season, St. John's finished with a 24-5 record as McGuire averaged 7.7 points a game. He finished his collegiate career in 1951, averaging 8.5 points per game and helping lead his team to third-place finishes in both the NIT and NCAA. The team concluded the 1951 season with a 26-5 record.Â
 Â
McGuire's coaching career at Marquette included the 1977 national title, nine NCAA tournament appearances and a 295-80 overall record.
Tourney Seeding On The Line SaturdayÂ
  Â
Entering the final day of play in the BIG EAST regular season, only three of the 10 seeds in the upcoming tourney have been decided.
 Â
MU could finish fifth, sixth or seventh, depending on not only the team's result at St. John's, but also on the winner of the Butler/Xavier matchup.  Wins by both MU and Xavier would give the Golden Eagles the No. 5 seed, provided Creighton finishes ahead of Villanova.  MU could also earn the No. 6 seed in a loss and avoid the opening round, as long as Butler defeats Xavier.Â
