MU wins sixth straight
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's tennis team swept hometown foe Milwaukee on Thursday evening, 7-0, marking their sixth consecutive victory.
The Golden Eagles (8-5) secured the doubles point early with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot from Natalija Popovic and Tiana Windbuchler, as well as a 6-3 victory from Elizabeth Ferdman and Lesley Foe in the No. 3 doubles spot.
Singles competition fell in favor of Marquette as Fleur Eggink went 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot. Tiana Windbuchler was next to finish, winning 6-2, 6-3 in the 5 spot. Freshman Elizabeth Ferdman got the first clinch of her collegiate career, going 6-3, 6-3 on the No. 6 court. Giulia Turconi snagged a point in the 4 spot with a 6-3, 6-4 showing while Natalija Popovic won 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 2 position. Isabella Franks grabbed her victory in three sets.
Marquette is now 8-0 against the Panthers (6-6). The team heads to Arizona next week to take on Arizona State and Grand Canyon University.
