Four players recorded double figures in the victory
CHICAGO—Four players scored in double figures as the second seeded Marquette women's basketball team advanced to its fourth consecutive BIG EAST Tournament semifinals on Saturday with a 72-59 victory over No. 7 seed Villanova.
Selena Lott paved the way with 17 points for Marquette (23-7), while freshman Jordan King added 14. Lauren Van Kleunen and Camryn Taylor added 12 and 11 points, respectively in the win.
The Golden Eagles led from start to finish and withstood a strong third quarter surge from Villanova (18-12) as the Wildcats worked to cut Marquette's 31-29 halftime lead to just a three point margin heading into the final frame.
MU dominated the glass with a 44-28 rebounding advantage as Lott and Van Kleunen each took down nine.
Marquette shot 43.6 percent (24-55) from the floor, including a 61.5 percent in the fourth quarter, which marked the 23rd game this season that the squad shot better than 40 percent, while King connected on 60 percent of her attempts.
The Golden Eagles will face No. 3 seed St. John's at 7:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 8. The game will air live on FS1.
