MU continues spring trip vs. Georgetown on Thursday
The Marquette University men's tennis team (8-4) opened is annual spring trip with a 4-3 victory over UNC-Wilmington (4-6) Monday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.
The Golden Eagles, who will face BIG EAST opponent Georgetown on Thursday to continue the trip, have now won five-straight matches.
Marquette rallied for the victory after dropping the doubles point for just the third time in 12 dual matches this season. Seniors Brandon Shanklin and Brett Meyers quickly pushed MU ahead 2-1 with straight-set wins at No. 6 and No. 3, respectively, and junior Luis Heredia Gomez pushed the advantage to 3-1 with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Senior Luke Smrek clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 decision at the top spot, where he is now 9-3 on the year in dual action.
