Marquette golf signs NAIA All-American Evangelio

The Spaniard was named a NAIA Second Team All-American by the GCAA
MILWAUKEE – Nicolás Evangelio, a native of Logroño, Spain and two-time NAIA Second Team All-American, has signed to join the Marquette University men's golf program for the 2020-21 season.
Evangelio, who competed the last two years at Missouri Valley College will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Golden Eagles when he arrives on campus.
"We are excited to welcome Nicolas to our program," Marquette head coach Steve Bailey said. "He embraces the values that are important to our team along with being a proven winner on and off the course. The combination of those traits will make an immediate impact at Marquette."
Evangelio earned all-America recognition in each of his two seasons at MVC and placed 14th at the 2019 NAIA Men's Golf Championship at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. He ended his freshman campaign 17th in NAIA in adjusted scoring average at 72.57 strokes per round.
As a sophomore in 2019-20, Evangelio captured medalist honors in three of the five events in which he competed and recorded an adjusted scoring average of 71.51 strokes. He recorded his collegiate low round with a 7-under 65 on the first day of the Missouri Valley College Fall Invitational on Sept. 9-10 at Indian Foothills Golf Course on his way to a 10-under 134 for the two-day event.
In his NAIA career encompassing 17 events, he earned six tournament crowns and a total of 12 top-three finishes.
The Spaniard, who is a member of the Sojuela Golf Club and La Rioja Golf Federation men's teams, also competed internationally in four events in the summer of 2019 and posted a 6-under 63 in the second round of the Biarritz Cup in France. He finished below par in three of those four events.
