MILWAUKEE — Dawson Garcia scored 13 of his career-high 20 points in the first half to lead Marquette to a 79-69 victory over Providence on Tuesday night at Fiserv Forum.
Senior guard Koby McEwen did a little bit of everything for the Golden Eagles, scoring 17 points to go along with team-bests in rebounds (8) and assists (5). Jamal Cain (12), Justin Lewis (11) and D.J. Carton (10) each finished in double figures as well.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 34-18 lead in the first half on the hot shooting of Garcia and company. They held the Friars to just 33% shooting from the field oin the first 20 minutes and took a nine point lead into the break.
Despite several runs from its opposition, MU was able to lead wire-to-wire in the second half and secure its third conference win of the season. PC cut the Golden Eagles lead to 66-64 with 3:36 remaining but would get no closer as MU finished the game on an 13-5 run.
Nate Watson led Providence with 18 points while leading scorer David Duke had 17. A.J. Reeves also chipped in 12.
