MTEN Falls 5-2 To Omaha In Season Opener

Freshmen Kijac and Dale claim first wins
The Marquette University men's tennis team (0-1) opened its 2021 dual-match season with a 5-2 loss to Omaha (1-0) Friday night in non-conference action at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The two teams will take to the court again Saturday morning, with first serve set for 11 a.m. CT.
The short-handed Golden Eagles featured four freshmen in the lineup and only one returnee, Stefan Dragovic, with significant dual-match experience. Marquette was playing its first match since March 12, 2020 when the campaign was shortened because of COVID-19.
Omaha opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the opening point and clinched the team victory with a trio of straight-set singles decisions.
Freshmen Nikola Kijac and Pablo Dale recorded their first respective collegiate victories Friday night. Kijac claimed a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 decision at the No. 3 spot for the team's first point and Dale earn a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
