McEwen, Carton and Lewis each finished in double figures for the Golden Eagles

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Marquette University men's basketball team fell in overtime, 72-63, to Providence at Alumni Hall on Wednesday evening.
Koby McEwen posted 13 points to lead the Golden Eagles (8-8, 4-6 BIG EAST), while D.J. Carton and freshman Justin Lewis each added 12.
Junior guard David Duke led all scorers with 31 points on the night for the Friars (9-7, 5-5 BIG EAST), who pulled out the victory despite shooting just 34.9 percent (22-of-63) from the field.Â
Theo John tied the game, 59-59, on a dunk with 50 seconds remaining in regulation and the Golden Eagles held PC off the board on the ensuing possession. Lewis corralled a defensive rebound with 23 seconds left, but a last-second 3-point heave from Greg Elliott came up short to send the game to overtime.
Duke posted six points during extra time to push the Friars to the win and PC recieved a big 3-pointer from Allyn Breed with 35 seconds remaining in a two-point game.
Marquette's next scheduled contest is Tuesday, Feb. 2 against Butler at Fiserv Forum at 4 p.m. Central time.
