
Marquette sweeps St. John's to start homestand

Golden Eagles are back in action Saturday night against Seton Hall

MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette University women's volleyball team defeated St. John's in three sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) on Friday night to capture its 11th sweep of the season.

The Golden Eagles have now won six of seven matches in conference play and are 15-3 overall (6-1 BIG EAST). Marquette hit .226 on the night (45-21-106) to SJU's .225 (36-11-111)

Graduate student Taylor Wolf led MU with 14 kills with Hope Werch and Carsen Murray adding 11 and eight, respectively. Murray also led the squad in hitting percentage at .583 (8-1-12).

Savannah Rennie tallied five total blocks and Carly Skrabak led Ryan Theis' squad with 19 digs.

After two closely contested sets, MU fell behind in the third set, but rattled off four straight points to take a 21-19 advantage. The Red Storm would not recover, and two kills from Wolf and one from Hannah Vanden Berg helped secure the win.
Georgia Walther led the Red Storm (12-9, 3-4 BIG EAST) with 13 kills, while Maria Angelica Palacios proved to be a tough matchup for the Golden Eagles at the net, recording five blocks, including three solo rejections.

NEXT UP:Â The Golden Eagles are back at the Al McGuire Center tomorrow night at 6 p.m. Central time for a meeting with Seton Hall. The Pirates were swept by DePaul on Friday evening.
