Marquette concludes regular season next Saturday at Valley Fields
QUEENS, New York – The Marquette men's soccer team (6-8-1, 3-5-1 BIG EAST) dropped Saturday's contest at St. John's 4-0.
St. John's took the lead about halfway through the first half scoring off a corner kick in the 25th minute. The Red Storm would then increase their lead with a second goal at the 39:07 mark to take a two-goal lead into the half.
In the second half, Forward AJ Franklin recorded two shots for the Golden Eagles. Franklin nearly bent one inside the left post in the 53rd minute and had another shot blocked by the Red Storm keeper, Luka Gavran, in the 60th minute.
St. John's would add two more goals in the second half coming in the 65th and 72nd minutes. The Red Storm held onto the lead for the remainder of the match to win 4-0.
Marquette entered the game short-handed, playing without midfielders Alan Salmeron and Zyan Andrade in Saturday's contest due to card restrictions from previous matches.
"We had a tall order at the end of this six-game concession of games," said Marquette head coach Louis Bennett. "We had to reform our personnel, and without Alan and Zyan we're a different team. We tried to make adjustments in the second half, and we actually had a couple of chances, but I don't think we had enough in the tank. Now we need to re-tool and prepare ourselves for a true test against Georgetown."
Gabe Kash and Chandler Hallwood played all 90 minutes for the Golden Eagles.
NEXT UP: Marquette will conclude the regular season at home against No. 2 Georgetown (12-1, 6-1 BIG EAST) next Saturday, Oct. 30 at 7:05 p.m. CT.
