Weizeorick and Pfrimmer pace respective teams
CARMEL, INDIANA – The Marquette men and women both finished in sixth-place at the BIG EAST Championships for the second year in a row.
The Golden Eagles took on a wet and muddy Northview Church Course Friday morning in Carmel.
"Looking from afar these results may not always seem promising, but I couldn't have been more pleased by our results today," head coach Sean Birren said.Â
Beginning with the men's 8k race, Freshman Dan Weizeorick (26:11.5) paced the MU men finishing 36th overall. Weizeorick has finished first for Marquette in four of five races this year.Â
Zak Kindl (26:21.6) and Jordan Janusiak (26:23.5) finished within two seconds of one another to place 39th and 42nd, respectively. Junior August Beyer (49th) and sophomore Jadon Conroy (51st) followed to round out Marquette's top-five runners.
"The team stepped up when they had to. Jordan ran smart to move back to our number three runner and Jadon was huge with his moving into the fifth man spot."
In the women's 6k, Kendall Pfrimmer (22:00.1) and Kate Jochims (22:17.9) led Marquette to finish 24th and 28th, respectively. Pfrimmer and Jochims have finished in the top-two for the Golden Eagles in all five meets they've competed in this season.
"On a crazy slow course, hampered by rain and mud the ladies killed it. The ladies managed the elements better than anyone out there."
Sophomore Laurel Moneysmith (23:01.6) finished in 44th-place, improving upon her 52nd overall finish at last year's BIG EAST Championships.
Emily Noone (51st) and Emily Foley (52nd) finished in consecutive places to cap off the top-five for the MU women.
"These men and women did a great job of being ready to race when it mattered most this year!"
The Butler men finished first at the BIG EAST Cross Country Champions for the second year in a row, Butler's Simon Bedard finished first overall in the men's race. Â
The Georgetown women defended their title as BIG EAST Champions. Maggie Donahue of Georgetown took first overall individually on the women's side.
