
Volleyball earns sweep in final road match at Butler

The Golden Eagles conclude regular season play Nov. 19-20 in Milwaukee

INDIANAPOLIS – The Marquette University women's volleyball team made quick work of Butler on Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse in a 25-14, 25-12, 25-17 sweep.
The Golden Eagles (23-4, 14-2 BIG EAST) were led by 14 kills and three service aces from outside hitter Hope Werch, while middle blocker Savannah Rennie hit .333 with 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Marquette hit a combined .279 (48-12-129) in the victory and held BU to a .055 mark (26-19-128). The Bulldogs had more errors (15) than kills (13) through the first two sets and MU closed the match by hitting .319 themselves in the final frame.
MU used seven-straight points in the opening frame on its way to a 25-14 win. Libero Carly Skrabak was at the service line for six-straight points during that run and posted nine of her 21 digs in the stanza. Werch landed eight kills in the frame.
A pair of 5-0 runs pushed the Golden Eagles to a 25-12 win in the second before MU closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the third.
Butler (14-15, 8-8 BIG EAST) was led by eight kills from Melody Davidson.

Marquette is 17-9 all-time against Butler and has earned a sweep in six of its last seven matches against the Bulldogs.

MU closes out the regular season on Nov. 19-20 against Georgetown and Villanova at the Al McGuire Center. In addition to Alumnae Weekend, the Golden Eagles will honor seven student-athletes on Senior Night prior to the match against Villanova on Saturday night.Â
