Pfeiffer and Osunkwo claim first in their respective events
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – The Marquette men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Blue Demon Holiday Invite hosted by DePaul Friday evening. 36 Golden Eagles set personal records and five made the all-time top-10 lists.
"Overall, I feel like we got a lot accomplished these first two weeks in December to propel us into the break," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We had a handful of pretty good marks and are close to some breakthroughs, but it's only December so it's still pretty early."
On the women's side, Gretchen Pfeiffer won the 800-meter with a PR of 2:31.82. In her first collegiate meet, freshman Gianna Konen earned runner-up honors with a PR of 2:33.10.
Junior Arianna Mansavage claimed the No. 3 spot all-time in the 300-meter with a 40.54, taking third place. Junior Adelaide Havens took fifth overall with a PR of 42.47.
Allie Flando beat her PR in the weight throw for the second meet in a row with a throw of 18.54 meters/60 feet, 10 inches and moves up to No. 4 all-time. Flando took second overall and fellow Golden Eagle Lizzy Cagle placed third with a throw of 17.80 meters/58 feet, 4.75 inches.
On the men's side, junior Jefferson Osunkwo took first in the triple jump in back-to-back meets. Osunkwo jumped a distance of 14.05 meters/46 feet, 1.25 inches to set a new PR and hit the No. 9 all-time mark.
Sophomores Julian Wright (No. 3) and Zachariah Murray (No. 5) added their names to the all-time top-10 list in the 300-meter with times of 34.76 and 35.31, respectively. Wright finished third overall and Murray followed in fourth.
"I'm happy with where we are at and I'm excited to continue building from here," Rogers said.
